Kenneth James Saiki was born on April 7, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois to James and May (Ikeda) Saiki. As an infant, he was baptized at Church of Christ, Presbyterian in December 1962, attending church and ministering here for his entire life. Ken accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a youth, growing in his faith through youth group and other church activities. As an adult, Ken served in many capacities Ė elder, deacon, worship leader, and teacher.
Ken graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1979 and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received both his bachelorís and masterís degrees in audiology from there. While at the U of I, Ken was deeply involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, serving as its chapter president in 1983-84.
Ken started his first job as an audiologist at West Suburban Hospital Audiology in 1987. After a few years, he joined Oticon as a sales representative, enjoying a long career with the company. Over the years, his Oticon territory covered the Midwest, ranging from Kansas to Ohio. An added benefit of his work was that he was able to travel abroad to places such as Iceland, Scotland, Russia, and Argentina. Ken was proud to work for Oticon because he believed they had the best hearing products, and he valued their philosophy of building relationships with their customers and putting people first.
Ken had many interests Ė among them were cooking, playing Scrabble, golf, and fantasy football. He especially enjoyed organizing an annual Leisure Manís March Madness Invitational in Las Vegas for his friends.
Ken was a wonderful uncle to his two nephews, Matthew and Jonathan. He would visit them often in California, coming for Christmas as well as to watch them play whatever sport was in season at the time. Ken was a loving brother to Rich and Anne, and a devoted son to his parents. He was close to many cousins, aunties and uncles. Ken was a dear friend to so many, and will be greatly missed by all.
